10 White City Puzzle Bank, patented in 1894 and manufactured by Nicol & Company to take advantage of the 1894 Chicago World’s Fair. It measures 4 1/8″ tall x 2 3/4″ wide x 3 1/4 deep, and. Shows no cracks, breaks, or other damage. The combination dial is a dummy that turns but does not open the bank: the bank is actually opened by unscrewing the butterfly bolt (hence the “Puzzle” of the bank). The piece has stood up well for a bank this old, retaining a great deal of the nickel plating, although it has tarnished over time. Like most items of this vintage, there will be assorted small scratches, spots of rust, and areas where the finish has worn.
