Excellent condition, fully functional. Colorful original paint in yellow, yellow-brown, medium and dark brown, red, medium and dark green, white, black, and gold. The Indian hunter kneels and aims, at a standing bear, with a bizarre rifle. Cocking a coin atop the rifle involves pushing the triangular tab toward the Indian; once cocked, the Indian’s head lowers (as if aiming). Pushing the tab between his legs shoots the coin into a slot between the bears arms and also makes the bear’s mouth open. A weird swatch of feathers sweeps back from the hunter’s head; he wears a bear-claw necklace, fringed shirt and trousers, and moccasins. The odd row of feathers on his back is easy to break and often missing from this bank, but this one is intact. No key, but it’s easy to retrieve coins by turning the small hatch underneath. Approximately 7-5/8 inches high by 10-1/2 inches long at base by 3 inches wide. This is one of three Stevens cast iron mechanical banks from this era–the others are Chief Big Moon and World’s Fair.
