Kyser & Rex Lion and Two Monkeys Cast Iron Mechanical Bank. This bank is in great working condition and still has most of the original paint. The baby monkey and its left arm along with the coin trap have been replaced by a mechanical bank expert, and the bank has been authenticated by him as well. The work was done beautifully as the baby monkey appears to be old and used just like the rest of it. The rest of the bank is all original. A new key has been added as well (See all pictures). Measures 9 1/2 Tall. Weighs 4lb 13.5oz. As I was testing the bank, I noticed that the monkeys were not coming forward as much as they should, so removed the trap and checked inside to see what the problem was. As I shined the light underneath, I noticed something was jammed up against the metal piece needed to propel the monkeys forward. I took a hangar and popped the little round object out to find it was an Indian Head penny from 1887! It isn’t worth much, but it is a cool piece of added history to the bank. The mechanical action now works, and new coins can be thrown into the lion’s mouth. I’ll keep this penny with the bank as I feel it belongs.
