Original Cast Iron Tammany Mechanical Bank, First Paint, Works, 1873 N0 Reserve
Here is the “Tammany” cast iron mechanical bank offered at NO reserve. Manufactured by J&E Stevens in Cromwell CT. And patented 12/23/1873 this example is all original, complete and working. There is no overpaint, no cracks and it retains the coin trap. One of designer John Hall’s classic “gravity” action banks Tammany had a long and successful production run. This “grey pants” variation shows the wear consistent with nearly 150 years of use. Simple action: place a coin in the man’s hand and he drops it in his pocket and nods his head to thank the depositor. Please ask any questions and I will try to answer promptly.
