Antique J & E Stevens Cast Iron Elephant 3 Clowns Circus Mechanical Bank 1882
Vintage Antique J & E Stevens Cast Iron Elephant 3 Clowns Circus Mechanical Bank 1882. We are proud to present this wonderful original Stevens mechanical bank. Depicts the charm and the excitement of the original circus big top experience. The Elephant and Three Clowns was patented on July 28, 1882 by James B Bowen. Manufactured by the Stevens Foundry of Cromwell Ct. Levers, pivots and springs are responsible for the movements. A coin is placed between the 2 rings under the elephant’s head. The ball balanced on the feet of the back clown is pulled down. At the same time the top clown turns at his waist and the elephant’s trunk sweeps to the right which knocks the coin between the legs of the elephant and into coin slot in the top of the tub. When the ball is released, all the parts return to the original locations. The bank movements work very well if you move the ball at a fast or normal speed seems to only not work if move the ball very slowly. Much of the paint has been worn. Missing the round coin trap on the bottom Everything seems in original condition without any restoration. Not a cast iron mechanical bank expert, but will be happy to try to answer all question.
