Antique J&E Stevens cast Iron Mechanical Artillery Bank patent 1892. Place coin in the cannon, cock the hammer as the right arm of the artillery man raises. Press the lever and the coin is shot into the fort as the right arm of the soldier lowers. The bank is in good working order. The original painted surface does show wear as seen in the photos. A former owner placed 3 strips of cloth on the base of the piece to prevent scratching. Part of the cloth was pulled away to reveal the patent date. The base of the bank is impressed May31,1892 indicating the bank is authentic and not a reproduction. The removable cover of the coin trap bears a different date suggesting the round cover is a replacement. Total length 8 1/8 Ht.. A barely noticeable small quarter inch hairline crack in the left side of the arch under the “A” in artillery is pictured. I cannot see the hairline on the opposite side. The bank is offered as found without repairs or restorations. The item “Antique J&E Stevens cast Iron Mechanical Artillery Bank Pat. May 31,1892″ is in sale since Wednesday, January 13, 2021.
