Originally was designed by Charles A. Bailey it was patented on Feb. 19, 1907 by J. This bank is after a 1902 President Teddy Roosevelt’s hunting story. He came upon a bear cub and he refused to shoot it. After this story Teddy bears and Teddy banks were very popular. Measuring 10 ¼” long by 3 ¼” wide by 7 ½ tall this bank is in original working condition. You would place a coin and a small cap in the rifle and push the button at the bottom. The cap goes off and the coin goes into the tree trunk releasing the Bear which pops up through the top. In the close-up photographs of the rifle you can see a thin wire sticking up. This wire is the spring that allows teddy’s head to move up and down. This action still works, but the end of the spring needs to be put back into the gun. The only other problem is the original coin trap door. There is a very old break in the middle. There are no other problems or any restorations to this authentic, Teddy and the Bear, Mechanical Bank.
