RARE & ORIGINAL J&E STEVENS CAST IRON MULTIPLYING MECHANICAL BANK NICE NO RESERV
A magnificent architectural building bank it was produced by J&E Stevens in Cromwell CT beginning in 1893. This example has all original first paint with no touchup or overpaint. It has the mirrors, the original glass door and the round locking coin trap in the bottom (I think the trap is an original but it probably is not the first one this bank had). The bank has a very tight hairline in the roof clearly shown in the photos; the crack does not go all the way across and is very tight, may be factory. Great patriotic red, white and blue colors and wonderful architectural design make this a very desirable bank sought after by both mechanical and still bank collectors. The “action” of the bank is simply the mirrors multiplying the coin when it is deposited in the roof. Please study all the high resolution photos, they are the primary description of this bank.
