ANTIQUE EAGLE & EAGLETS MECHANICAL BANK BY J & E STEVENS CIRCA 1883 CAST IRON
This is the original Eagle & Eaglets cast iron mechanical bank cir. 1883 made by J & E Stevens. To operate, place a coin into the mother eagle’s beak, you then press down on the lever in the back, which happens to be a serpent, and she bends down and drops the coin into the nest for deposit. The baby birds jump up to get the coin and open their beaks. It has glass eyes and works well. It has a wonderful patina, although some paint loss. It is an original example of an early American toy bank. The bottom is cast ” PAT JAN 23 1883 ” and has a patented coin door on the bottom. The bank currently has coins in it. The size is approx. 9 ” x 6 ” x 4 and weighs 3lb. Use photos for description and ask questions. Check out my other items.
