Original J & E Stevens Funny Clown Bank on Globe cast iron Mechanical bank 1885
AUTHENTIC 1895 J & E STEVENS FUNNY CLOWN BANK ON GLOBE, GOOD CONDITION, PAINT IS IN GREAT CONDITION. THE BANK WORKS, BUT AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PICTURES THE GEARS ARE RUSTY BUT DOES WORK. THE BOTTOM OF THE BANK IS DAMAGED BUT YOU CAN SIT THE BANK ON TOP IF IT. PLEASE LOOK AT PHOTOS! I WOULD CLEAN THE RUST, NOT TOUCH THE WONDERFUL PAINT JOB. I WOUND THE BANK CLOCKWISE, IT CLICKED AND LOCKED, PUT A COIN IN AND RELEASED THE LEVER. THE CLOWN SPUN AROUND OVER 3 TIMES. IT NEEDS ASSISTANCE GOING INTO A HEAD STAND POSITION AND WILL SPIN. MECHANISM NEEDS TO BE CLEANED. THE BANK IS 9″ TALL AND 6.75″ WIDE AT BASE. THE BASE IS YELLOW, THE MORE RARE COLOR. THE COLORS ARE BRIGHT, BEST COLORS I’VE SEEN ON AN ORIGINAL ONE. JUST CLEANING ISSUES AND REPAIR TO THE BOTTOM. THERE IS NO COIN COVER. Great price, please look at all photos, look at the good condition. The Funny Clown, clown on globe, The bank was based on patent No. 428,450 issued to James H. Bowen on May 20, 1890. This hard to find bank has fantastic action! To operate, lock the clown into the sitting position and push up the lever that is on the base. The lever will snap into place and release a plate to partially cover the coin slot from below so that the coin will not drop into the bank. Turn the clown and globe clockwise one revolution (or one and a half revolutions for more speed) and then place a coin in the slot in the base. Push the lever down and the clown on the globe will spin counter-clockwise and the plate covering the coin slot will release and the coin will drop into the bank. Reset the bank by pushing the lever on the base back up and turning the globe clockwise again. Once you have done that, push the lever in the back of the globe and the clown will stand on his head and spin around with the globe when the lever on the base is depressed. The Clown on Globe Bank was offered with either a tan or yellow base. This one has the rarer yellow base. The clown has a light blue collar, bronzed colored hat, red shirt, mustard colored pants, white stockings and black shoes. The globe is deep blue with gold trim. Stamped into the base of the bank is “PATD 428450 & PENG” and stamped into the round trap is “PAT FEB 2 1875″. Would like to sell due to medical problems and retirement. Will not give it away, would like a fair offer. Very low offer only one time for a few days. I was going to try to clean the rust, not happening, too busy.
