Original Antique Cast Iron Mechanical Bank
This popular mechanical bank by J. Stevens, circa 1897 is known as I Always Did Spise a Mule. It is one of the two versions produced; this is the Boy on Bench version in which when activated, the mule kicks up and spins around, knocking the boy over. The bank has tremendous crossover appeal to collectors of both mechanical banks and black memorabilia. It has great form and amusing action. SIZE: 9-3/4 l x 2-1/2 w x 5-3/4 h. CONDITION: This is a very fine example overall with uniform light wear and some minor paint chips, but certainly acceptable considering well over a century of use.
