Made by the J. Stevens Company during the late 19th century, this antique Cast Iron Mechanical Bank is called I Always Did’Spise a Mule. This Black Americana bank depicts a black jockey on top of a horse. When the lever below the horse is pushed, the horse is supposed to buck, throwing the rider forward, and releasing the coin in his mouth into the slot. As you can see in our photographs, this bank retains its original polychrome paint, but there re some problems. The left side of the jockey has a long break across the arm and leg, and is being held in place with a piece of green wire. When the lever is pushed down, the horse no long bucks forward with spring action and there is wear to the original paint. To make sure some eBayer adds this antique J.
