Bailey designed Hen & Chick Mechanical Bank. This is a super cool, rare old Mechanical Cast Iron Bank. This was designed by the great Bank Designer Charles A. Stevens Company whom Bailey worked for I think. This dates from like 1901. This example is the white Hen with Green Base. There is a definite aging and patina to this one, and it is not perfect – but, the pictures will help you determine the condition. It has some flaws that need to be noted – the bottom stopper is gone, and the actual mechanic to hold the coin in place seems to be gone too – and there is a coin in there too – rattling around. There is a missing screw on one end too which is causing it to not be totally closed. The actual mechanic works properly, the Mama Hen’s head goes forward and the baby chick pops out. Apparently, It would make a clucking sound at one time – this one doesn’t – but the Mama’s mouth does open as if to cluck. It is 9-7/8″ in length, 4″ wide, about 4-3/4 high. It has the Pat.
