A fabulous antique cast iron mechanical bank. Guaranteed authentic and in excellent working condition. This was made by J. Cromwell, Connecticut, late 19th century, The bank reads ALWAYS DID SPISEAMULE And when activated shows the mule go from standing facing the seated figure to spinning 180s degrees on its front hoofs whilst the back legs kick up as the mules body lifts. Meanwhile the seated figure flips back to avert the kick and deposits the coin placed under the seat. The bank is a wonderful complex example of these articulated mechanical constructions and is in wonderful condition in all respects, the seated figure even retains a delicate whip. Original hand painted enamels in excellent shape- and bank is working wonderfully as shown. The base/stand measures 26cm and the mule when in kicking position makes the height of the bank approx 16.5 cm. Weight is 1.35.
