Antique Original Cast Iron J & E Stevens William Tell Mechanical Coin Bank
Original Antique Cast Iron “William Tell” Bank made by J & E Stevens c. Measures about 6.75″ tall, 10.5″ long, and 3.5 wide. It is in working condition. It is operated by pulling back the spring loaded mechanism located on William Tell’s gun, placing a penny in front of it, and pressing down on his foot to fire. The penny is launched forward, knocking the apple off of the small boy’s head, and ringing a bell inside the bank. To reset the apple onto the boy’s head, simply lower his right arm. Condition is as seen in photos. Scratches, missing paint (although much of the original paint is still intact), and other wear consistent with such an old piece. There repaired crack in the base that appears to have been done at an early date. It is repaired well and is barely even noticeable from the top (photo 8). The repair can been seen from the bottom.
