Antique Cast Iron Eagle & Eaglets Mechanical Bank-1883
The creator of this bank is John and Elisha Stevens. The company was located in Cromwell, Connecticut and specialized in the manufacture of cast iron toys in 1843 and in 1869 made the first cast iron bank. This is a gorgeous Eagle & Eaglets Mechanical Bank. On the bottom is PAT Jan 23 1883. On the round coin trap it has Feb 1875 PAT. The measurements are approximately 6.5″ tall, 8″ long, and 4.5 wide. To operate the mechanical bank place a coin into the mother Eagles beak; twist the snake form lever in the back; the baby Eaglets open their beaks as if being fed and the coin will drop down into the nest. There are no cracks, or damage to the cast iron, the eyes are missing and some of the paint has come off. I just found out the screw is not the original.
