Original 1897 John Harper Cast Iron Mechanical Hoop-la Bank
Offered here is an antique cast iron mechanical “Hoopla Bank, ” designed and. Patented by John Harper in April of 1897 and. Manufactured by the John Harper & Company, Ltd. Of Willenhall, Staffordshire, England. The bank operates thusly: place a coin in the dogs mouth, depress the lever at the end of the bank, and the dog leaps up and forward through the ring, depositing the coin in the barrel. He piece does show some repair to the top plate, and there is a small chip missing next to the clown’s feet. It’s also possible that it may have had some touch up to the original paint? Other than that, though, it has stood the test of time very well for a bank that is over 120 years old. All of the parts appear original to the piece, and the mechanism is still strong and works just as it should. Like many examples of this particular bank, it is missing the original coin trap. Please check the photos as they are an integral part of the description, and please let me know if you’ve any questions or need further information.
