J. & E. STEVENS c. 1899 CHIEF BIG MOON CAST IRON MECHANICAL BANK
“Chief Big Moon” mechanical bank, designed by Chas. Bailey and patented in 1899. It was manufactured by the J. Stevens Co of Cromwell, Conn. Measures about 9 1/2″ high x 10″ long. It retains 80%+ of its original paint, and displays beautifully (I would grade it as very fine). The mechanism works smoothly and as it should: place a coin in the slot in the front of the pond, press down on the lever, and the coin is deposited as the frog springs from the pond and goes after the fish while the native squaw lifts it away. Hard to find this mechanical bank in all original and complete condition, especially with nice paint, so i. F you’re a collector of mechanical banks, don’t let this one get away.
