UNCLE TOM W/ STAR CAST IRON MECHANICAL BANK 1882 Kyser & Rex Co Black Americana. UNCLE TOM WITH STAR CAST IRON MECHANICAL BANK Patented 1882. By Kyser & Rex Co. Uncle Tom in a blue jacket. Original paint with moderate wear. This is the “UNCLE TOM” With Blue Jacket Mechanical Bank manufactured by the Kyser & Rex Co. It was patented on January 24, 1882. There are no cracks, breaks or other damage. There are different variations of the bank and this one is the “With Stars And Lapels”. The bank retains much of its original paint and is truly a nice example of the’Uncle Tom mechanical bank. Many times the eyes of the figure are absent or damaged. To operate, a lever on the back of the bank is pressed which exposes his tongue. A coin is then placed on the tongue and when the lever is released the tongue recedes and the coin drops into the bank. At the same time his eyes lower. On releasing the lever the moving parts return to their original position. This is one of the few bust banks where the lever is located on the back of the head instead of lower on the figure’s shoulder. The bank is in proper working order and is approximately 5″ high on a 4″ x 3 base. It has a rectangular coin trap. The key is included. This unique bank will make a wonderful addition to your collection.
