Cast Iron HEN AND CHICK NEAR PRISTINE Mechanical Bank Original Antique
This is the “HEN AND CHICK” Mechanical Bank circa 1901 manufactured by the J. The bank was designed by Charles Bailey, probably the best and greatest of all the designers of mechanical banks. The bank was patented October 1, 1901 as a design patent and then assigned to Stevens. Bailey’s successful use of hard cast iron to achieve the touch of graceful flora remains unchallenged to this day. There are no cracks, breaks or other damage. The bank has some paint loss, but overall the bank is in. It is also one of the most. Of the mechanical banks, displays beautifully, and will make a valuable contribution to your collection. The “Hen and Chick” was manufactured in two colors. One was made with a brown base and brown hen. The other, shown here, has a green base with a white hen. The white hen is considered to be the rarer of the two banks. To operate, a coin is placed in the provided slot in front of the hen. The lever is then turned over in the direction of the rear of the bank. In so doing, the Hen appears to cluck closing her beak rapidly, then the little chick springs forward from under the hen and pecks the coin into the bank. At the same time, the hen bends her head down as though watching the chick. The last picture is from one of J. This bank is in proper working order and has the typical Stevens’ coin trap. The bank is approximately 9 7/8″ long, 4″ wide and 4 1/4 high. The item “Cast Iron HEN AND CHICK NEAR PRISTINE Mechanical Bank Original Antique” is in sale since Tuesday, September 11, 2018.
