NOTE: The term “nigger” has been used to describe people of African-American heritage in a derogatory manner, but that is not my intention. The term is repeated here in its original historical context to describe the bank. The bottom plate is missing. Otherwise, it functions as intended. A coin is placed in the. Hand and lever on the back of the left shoulder is pushed down which causes the figure to raise his hand, swallow the coin, and roll his eyes. The back and front of the bank are fastened together with a screw behind each ear and another in the base. The name “JOLLY NIGGER BANK” is cast in raised letters on the back of the bank. On the inside of the front of the torso, “MADE IN ENGLAND” is incised into the iron with the number “2” above it. The number “2” is also incised into the back of the torso. The bank weighs 3.5 lb. The base measures 8 cm deep x 12 cm wide (3.15 x 4.75 inches). Height is approximately 16 cm (6.25 inches). Butterfly tie type 2. I welcome being corrected if that is not the case. Condition: As noted above, the base plate is missing. The bank has not been painted, altered, or taken apart since the 60s. NOTE: There are fragments of. Green paint above and below the left eye, and red paint in the hair at the top of the bank that do not look typical of these banks. If that paint was applied to the bank after manufacturing, it was done prior to the 1960s.
