Antique Cast Iron Still Coin Bank Shaped like Independence Hall. Created in 1875
The coin bank in the shape of Philadelphias Independence Hall and measures 10-1/4H x 9-1/2W x 8D. An original antique bank; it is. One of the reproductions made for the 1976 bicentennial. The bank was created to celebrate the 1876 Centennial Exposition. The original square nuts are on the bottom; the bank’s paint appears to be original. Both sides of the bank have raised letters. On the left: BIRTHPLACE OF AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE; on the right: LIBERTY PROCLAIMED JULY 4, 1776. On the underside of the bank, also in raised letters, is: ENTERPRISE, MFG. The bank has been featured in many articles and books, including PENNY BANK BOOK by Andy and Susan Moore. Note: The short railing on one side is missing (photos #3, #4, #5).
