C. 1883 J. &. E. Stevens Cast Iron Eagle & Eaglets Mechanical Bank
For sale is a nice example of the cast iron “Eagle and Eaglets ” mechanical bank. Patented in 1883 and manufactured by J. Measures approximately 6″ tall x 8″ long x. 4 1/4 wide and it is in very good condition for a piece this old. It still operates as it should (except the eaglets don’t cheep because the bellows is missing) and. It retains 90%+ of its original paint finishes. To operate, place a coin in the eagle’s mouth, depress the snake lever at the back of the bank and the eagle leans forward and drops the coin in the bank as the chicks rise up and open their mouths in expectation of a meal. There are a couple of small issues: the. Glass eyes and coin trap are replacements and the wire that attaches one of the wings to the internal mechanism has likewise been replaced.
