Antique J&E Stevens BEAR HUNT Western Indian Painted Cast Iron Mechanical Bank!! . The Bear Hunt as its known is one of the most desirable of all the 1800s mechanical banks in existence! Made by the J&E Stevens Company, all through the 1800s to early 1900s. This bank was patented in 1875. There are a few varieties when brand new the company gave you a couple options on color variation & this bank is by far the most desirable. Absolutely stunning to be this old and still intact and still functioning like it would in 1875! The bank is still in original working condition! Incredibly the color is outstanding!! All original paint with some paint wear that is extremely common & virtually none have all their paint. It may have some time had some color retouched. Many of it original color paint still exist. It is extremely heavy and were known for their reliability and durability. The phrase they dont make them like they used to really applies to this antique mechanical banks. There was some very minor repairs to these bank as almost all of them have been. The spring which fires the gun mechanism is still in tact but is a little smaller than others maybe perhaps from a young kid of adult saving many many coins. But we have not seen many a bank in better condition than this popular Bear Hunt bank. Its truly amazing that the Indians feathers have remained intact after all these years. Usually if youre lucky enough to see one in person, many times they are without the feathers. To operate the Bear Hunt mechanical bank you simply place a coin on the slot on the Indian mans rifle and press the lever on the base of the bank by the Indians foot.
