Description : Its time to step it up! A Figural Cast Iron Bank in the form of an open-mouth Standing Lion, American or English, c. This is M#764, Lion, Tail Between Legs ; quite similar to M#751, Royal Seated Lion, attributed to John Harper Ltd. Possible US manufacturers would include Hubley, AC Williams or Arcade. See Moores Penny Bank Book for the John Harper comparison and judge for yourself. A highly detailed, two-part casting held together with a flathead screw. Coin slot is located at top of the head/mane, along the seam. Retains remnants of the original gold paint, as shown. Note: the tail is attached to the left leg. The photos are probably the best description. Condition : Good to Very Good overall with honest wear throughout, including paint loss, soiling, tarnish. No cracks or repaired damage noted. The flathead screw is period but could be a later replacement. Some early casting imperfections noted for complete descriptive accuracy. Guaranteed old and authentic.
