Antique Gold Colored Cast Iron Still Penny Bank Woolworth Building By Kenton US
Antique Gold Colored Cast Iron Still Penny Bank Woolworth Building 7 7/8 Tall by Kenton US. For Your Penny Bank Collection-TallBuilding2. Description: A scarce antique (circa 1915) gold colored cast iron still penny bank. The bank is in the shape of a skyscraper building with windows all around and a tower extending upwards above the lower portion. The bank is a representation of the famous Woolworth Building in New York. It was made by the Kenton US company in 1915. The building is rectangular in shape with a flat intermediate roof. There is a square tower of continuously decreasing size as it rises to the left of the intermediate roof. The tower ends in a point. There is the words “WOOLWORTH BLD’G” in raised lettering near the base on one of the sides (see 4th photo). The skyscraper is gold colored and is made of two halves held together with a screw. We opened the bank and can see that it is all original and shows gold paint run-off on the inside as well as some minor rust signs. The bank has the coin slot on top of the intermediate roof. The casting is well done and shows details of the windows and the words “WOOLWORTH BLD’G” on the side of the building. The bank was made by Kenton US as described in Andy and Susan Moore “The Penny Bank Book; Collecting Still Banks” published by Schiffer Publishing Co. Of Exton, PA-Bank No. 1041 on Page 111. Please carefully review the pictures presented as they are part and parcel of our description. Size: The base measures approximately 2 1/4″ by 1 3/4″ at the base and is 7 7/8 to the apex of the tower on top of the intermediate roof. The bank weighs about one pound and four ounces. Marks: Unmarked as to the maker on the exterior and on the inside. Condition: Bank is all original and is in very good condition with no repairs or breaks. It has losses to its gold paint, but still retain quite a bit of it (estimate >85%). It has a few minor scratches to the surface. The skyscraper is gold colored and is made of two halves held together with screw. The casting is well done and shows details of the windows as well as the word “WOOLWORTH BLD’G” on the side of the building. A nice antique penny bank, which would display nicely in any collection.
