Offered for sale is a very nice example of the very scarce “Marietta Silo” cast iron bank, manufactured sometime in the 1930’s by the Marietta Silo Co. It measures approximately 5 1/2″ high x 1 7/8″ in diameter and as can be seen from the pictures, is in excellent condition: there are no breaks, cracks or other damage, and it retains its original retaining screw and 95%+ of its original finish. There is a casting flaw that looks like a. Crack on one side of the silo that extends to the seam of the bank. It is clearly a factory defect: there is no separation that one would expect if it were crack that occurred post production, it rings solid (cracked cast iron rings duller), and original paint was applied after the flaw was created (note the top and bottom ends of the flaw). I should note that black light examination reveals no touch up or overpaint to original finish. The piece displays wonderfully, and is a very fine example of an early advertising bank.
