Antique Cast Iron Gold Painted Still Penny Bank Bison or Buffalo by A. For Your Penny Bank Collection-Buffalo2. Description: A nice antique gold colored cast iron still penny bank. The bank is cast in the form of a buffalo or bison standing on four feet. The buffalo’s head is tilted down and turned slightly to the side. The bank is colored in gold with considerable tosses of coloring due to age and use. The bank is made of two parts held together with a screw. The casting shows details of the buffalo’s eyes, ears, nostrils, horns, and the fur around his head and neck. The bank appears to be all original and retains some of its original paint. It has the coin slot on the back on the buffalo’s hump. This is a very nice-looking penny bank in fairly good condition. Please see page 89 in Andy and Susan Moor’s Book “The Penny Bank Book: Collecting Still Banks” Published by Schiffer Books in 1984, for a photo of a similar example (bank number 560). Please carefully review photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Sometime in the 1920s. Size: The bank measures 3 1/8″ at its tallest, 1 1/2″ at its widest point, and the beast itself is 4 3/8 long. The bank weighs about 10 ounces. Marks: We have opened the bank and were unable to identify any markings. Distinguishing Characteristics – Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice still penny bank which would make a nice addition to your collection. Condition: This cast iron bank is in fairly good condition. It has no breaks and no repairs. It does have a hole in the front above the leg (see the second photo plus the last couple of photos). The bank appears to be all original with its original screw and retains quite a bit of its original gold coloring (>50%). The bank shows some soiling, scratches to the surface, and losses to the coloring. A great looking bank worthy of a spot in your collection.
