Entitled “Tennis Players”, this cast iron mechanical bank was made in 1975. It depicts the famous 1973 match up of Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs in “The Battle of the Sexes”. To operate the tennis players pull the ladies right ankle and both figure’s swing and lock into place. Place a penny on the front edge of the ladies racket. Then press down the cast iron latch and the lady will volley the penny across the net. The penny will land at the slot in front of the man’s feet and he will swing in vain to return the volley. This is an extremely rare bank which rarely appears on the secondary market. There is paint loss on the tennis court lines. Paint loss on Bobby Riggs’ tennis shoe, leg. Paint loss on Billie Jean’s knee. Please look over the photos for complete depiction of any paint loss. This item does not appear to have been’touched up’ in any way.
