Beautiful old Lion and Two Monkeys original cast iron mechanical bank from 1883! Mechanism works well, paint is not great, but look at how loved it has been! Bottom coin trap is missing. One of my favorite banks in my collection! I’m upgrading, just bought another version of this bank with better paint, so I need to liquidate this one. Check out the photos and you will see the condition: the patina and internal mechanics are original and wonderful. In fact it works better than the one I’m keeping – when you push the twig at the bottom of the tree, the monkey drops the coin, the lion’s open mouth receives it (most of the time- this model is notorious for being a little finicky), and the little monkey jumps up on the big monkey’s shoulders. I have had it for many years. I believe the smaller monkey to be a replacement, but I’m sure nothing else is. A member of the Mechanical Bank Collectors of America has told me this is DEFINITELY AN ORIGINAL. My reserve is less than I paid for the bank back in the late 2000’s. I started my collection in 1997, and periodically upgrade and sell the ones I replace.
