Antique Cast Iron Goat Frog & Old Man Initiating Bank Second Degree
Extremely rare original “Goat Frog and Old Man” mechanical bank aka “Initiating Bank, Second Degree”. Manufactured by Mechanical Novelty Works of New Britain, Connecticut circa 1880. Very unusual bank depicting a bearded man with one shoe holding a tray sitting on a goat in front of a giant frog. Goats were often used in secret society initiating rituals, hence the “Initiating Bank” name. Place a coin on the tray and press the lever by the goat’s feet and the goat leaps forward and the frog raises up to accept the coin in it’s mouth for deposit. If you’re interested in expanding your collection with some of the rarer and more interesting banks here is a great opportunity. Has a repair done at the pivot for the goat’s front legs, which causes some side to side give (see pics). Thanks a lot and be sure to check out my other rare and interesting items!
