Nice Antique Cast Iron Coin Bank/Painted Black Man by A. C. Williams circa 1901
It was manufactured by A. Among collector’s it is known as Darkey (Sharecropper). The bank has been painted black with red and yellow to the hat and upper body. The man’s toes are visible on one foot at the end of the shoe. The man stands slightly under 5.5-inches in height and the base measures 1 5/8 x 1 7/8-inches. The coin slot is on the man’s back at shoulder height, and the bank opens by a screw on the back. The bank weighs 14.4 ounces. See photos for more details. This bank is in nice condition. There are no chips, cracks, or dents in the metal surfaces. There is a bit of over casting on the bottom of the hat rim and several small casting pits on the right leg where it enters the shoe.
