J & E Stevens Frog on Latticework Cast Iron Mechanical Bank Original Paint
Check out this excellent antique cast iron mechanical bank! As you can see from the pictures, this piece is in great condition with the original paint. There are only a few small signs of aging, as the condition has been well kept for many years. The mechanism seems to be working fine, as pressing on the frog’s webbed foot causes the mouth to open for coin deposit, and the eyes roll forward. The mechanics do seem to be a bit loose, which is probably from many years of regular use. There are 2 coins inside, and I do not want to take any risks by opening the bank. This is one of the first banks ever made by J & E Stevens out of Cromwell, Connecticut. The approximate date for the creation of this piece is 1872 to 1880. The name for this piece is Frog on Latticework Bank. ” Stands approximately 4 1/4″ tall and 4 3/8 wide.
