Patented in 1896 by the J&E Stevens Toy Company, this authentic 19th Century Cast Iron Mechanical Bank depicts William Tell about to shoot an apple off of his son’s head. Simultaneously, it also fires a cap and tosses a coin that rings a bell inside of the castle. As you can see in the photographs, the original polychrome painted surface has darkened over the years, but all the paint is there with some light wear to the high points. This cast iron antique bank is in great condition with no restorations or missing parts. The bank still has the original coin access hole cover. This 120 year old very rare mechanical bank still works perfectly! I judge about a C8 condition. How it works: This bank is activated by sliding back the launcher on top of the rifle and placing a coin on the launcher; place a cap in the cap box and then press the figure’s right foot which fires the cap and flips the coin into the castle knocking the apple off the boy’s head, raising his arm while ringing the internal bell. A lot happens all at once. This historic and very rare Stevens William Tell historical bank would be a great addition for a new collector or even to a seasoned collector wishing to fill out fine collection of Americana vintage cast iron toy banks.
