J&E. Stevens Cast Iron I ALWAYS DID’SPISE A MULE Mechanical Bank original paint
We are offering for sale a vintage cast iron. I Always Did’Spise a Mule – B. Oy Seated on Bench. Mechanical bank (red base version), designed by James Bowen and patented in 1897. It was manufactured by the J. Stevens Co of Cromwell, Conn. Measures about 6″ high x 3″ wide x 10 long. It retains all of its original parts except the coin trap cover (replacements available online) and the little boy’s “pole”. The mechanism works smoothly and as it should: place a coin in the slot under the seated boy then press the knob under the mule. The mule swings around and knocks the boy over backward, depositing the coin into the bank. To reset, move the mule back into original position, locking his back foot into place, and tip the boy back onto the log. This is a hard to find mechanical bank. The mule appears to have a broken tail. If you’re a collector of mechanical banks, take advantage of this opportunity to own a nice example of this one. Please check the pictures as they are an integral part of the description. NICE EARLY MECHANICAL BANK. SEE PHOTOGRAPHS FOR DETAILS. PLEASE SEE PHOTOGRAPHS FOR DETAILS.
