Original Cast Iron Hall’s Lilliput Mechanical Bank JE Stevens Pat 1875 & 1876
This is the Hall’s Lilliput cast iron mechanical bank having its original paint. The bank works by placing a coin on the tellers tray and the weight of the coin causes the man to swing and deposit into bank. One cent in 1875 was larger and heavier than todays coins so the teller needs a little push to deposit. The front and sides are painted green, the front steps are brown, the dome is brown with gold trim, the man has a black coat, red vest, blue pants, and black shoes with good paint to his face. The sides of the bank read as follows. One side says PATENTED MAY 1875 JAN 1876. Another side says PAT DESIGN JULY 27 1875. The base measures 2 3/4 in. The Stevens coin trap is a replacement. This bank is early and rare with paint loss as shown. There are no chips but there is a hairline crack on the top left front corner. Overall condition if very good and is a must for any mechanical bank collection. This is the Hall’s Lilliput Bank version with flat tray. One version has no tray narrow building, and a third version has a serrated tray. The buildings came in green, yellow , or white, so this example is correct..
