J & E Stevens produced these banks c April 22 1879 its stamped into the base along with patent pending abbreviated PENDG (see pix). J and E Stevens of Cromwell. Is the oldest toy company in. It is synonymous with mechanical banks but it produced quite a few still banks as well. It produced banks from 1870 until the depression forced its closure in the early 30s. The detail is absolutely beautiful! Just look at the casting detail with the intricate design. Put a coin under the bench and it when the mule spins around and whollops the young lad!! EXCELLENT CONDITION, from my personal collection. THIS IS AN INVESTMENT GRADE BANK. Very hard to come by in this condition indeed! Has approximately 96% of its paint. The surface finish is 100% original – it has never been restored, repainted, touched up or altered in any way. The seams are tight, even, the pieces align well. This bank is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, breaks, repairs or damage of any kind unless stated. There is no rust with a very nice patina on it. Don’t miss out on this one as I doubt you will find a nicer example! 10 1/8 x 6 to the top of the mules ear.
