Cast Iron Mechanical Bank Boy Scout Camp
Just recently acquired this mechanical bank. Based on my internet search this model does not often find its way to the open marketplace, and is wonderful example of the scarce and complex J. Stevens Company masterpiece mechanical bank is attributed to highly acclaimed bank designer Charles A. Bailey and celebrates the 1910 formation of The Boy Scouts of America. The banks exact production date is yet a matter of debate, but mechanical bank scholars agree that the bank was manufactured sometime between 1912 and 1917, the year following Congresss historic. 1916 charter of the Boy Scouts. Supposedly this Clever bank works by placing a coin in the slot, located in the foliage of the tree on top of the tent. The lever, located underneath the owl, is then pressed, causing the coin to drop into the bank and the scout to raise his flag reading”Boy Scout Camp” over his head (missing flag). Measures 9.875” long, 6” tall and 3.5” wide. Paint retains faded colors with excellent patina. Comparing this bank found on internet that is considered original, this item is missing the flag with a pole and the bottom coin bank cover. Other than that it is in working order. Please review the pix. If you need more pix please do not hesitate to let me know. The item “Cast Iron Mechanical Bank Boy Scout Camp” is in sale since Sunday, December 15, 2019.
