Rare J. & E. Stevens Original Cast Iron Hen & Chick Mechanical Bank White Hen
Stevens Original Cast Iron Hen & Chick Mechanical Bank White Hen Variation. Original Cast Iron Hen and Chick Mechanical Bank. Circa 1901: Charles A. Baileys scarce and desirable Hen and Chick mechanical bank was produced by the J. Stevens Company of Cromwell, Connecticut and is a tribute to rural Americas barnyard. The bank was manufactured in both white and brown hen variations and theoretically had a bellows to make the hen cluck as the lever was pressed and the chick popped out from its nest. Like all other known examples of the Hen and Chick, this bank contains no bellows and has no evidence one was ever installed. The banks mechanism works perfectly, has no chips, cracks, or repairs, and retains a completely original and untouched painted surface. This is a wonderful bank for the advanced collector and also fits beautifully into a country primitives setting because of its rural subject matter. Great Paint & Golden Patina Condition is excellent – as seen in the pictures All original. No breaks or cracks The mechanism works fine. Do n’t miss, and please ask any questions.
