LION AND TWO MONKEYS Mechanical Bank Cast Iron Antique c1880’s
For sale tonight is a cast iron antique mechanical bank called the “LION AND TWO MONKEYS”. It was made by the Kyser & Rex Co. The patent was issued on July 7, 1883. This bank is over 100 years old and doesn’t work properly. When the monkey drops the coin it misses the lion’s mouth. After listing the bank I tested it again and it worked four times, so although is doesn’t work consistently, it does work on occasion. The working mechanism needs fine tuned and adjusted. The bank still has wonderful bright paint. Actually, if the bank worked it would be considered in. And the right person can probably get it to work properly. To operate, a coin is placed in his right hand of the front monkey. On depressing the lever, the hand and arm of the monkey lowers, dropping the coin toward the lion whose mouth is open to receive it. The bank is approximately 9″ long, 9 1/2″ high and 3 1/2 wide. This is a real opportunity to make this wonderful bank a part of your collection. A flash was used to highlight the color.
