This large international fair , the World’s Columbian Exposition, was also known as the Chicago World’s Fair. It was held to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus. It was dedicated October 12, 1892, formally opened by President Cleveland May 1, 1893, and closed October 30, 1893. There are two dates on the front… The bank is in. Condition being nickel plated with the domed back plate in black. The last picture is from the 1895 Montgomery Ward Catalog. To operate, the tray in front of the building is pulled out. The coin is then placed in the slot provided for on the tray. The tray is pushed in and when the tray is pulled out the coin has magically disappeared. This is accomplished by having a hinge on the coin holder which drops down when pushed inside the building. The bank is in proper working order and has the combination lock on the base of the bank. The coin trap is a double combination dial. Most of these banks had the combination lock lost years ago. The bank is 5″ long and 5″ high. To make this unique bank a part of your collection.
