The banks are being listed with. And a reasonable starting price. The owner of the banks has reluctantly decided to part with much of his collection and continues that tonight. This is the “ELEPHANT & THREE CLOWNS” Mechanical Bank c1882 manufactured by the J. And designed by James Bowen. There are no cracks, breaks or other damage and the bank still retains much of its paint. The paint is still. It has very clever action and the proportion and designing of this bank ranks it as one of the best from these standpoints. All of the circus banks have great appeal and this appeal continues to increase as time goes on. This is one of the more popular and colorful of the Mechanical Banks. To operate, a coin is placed between the two rings held by the clown standing beneath the elephant’s trunk. The ball balanced on the feet of the clown on the steps is then pulled backward. The legs of this clown actually operate as a lever and causes the elephant’s trunk to swing to the side, thus knocking the coin between the legs of the elephant and on into the coin slot in the top of the tub. At the same time the clown riding the elephant turns at the waist as if taking credit for the successful depositing of the coin. Upon releasing the ball all moving parts automatically return to their original position. The bank is in proper working order and has the usual round Stevens coin plug. The size is approximately 5 1/2″ long, 3″ wide and 5 3/4 tall. The item “Cast Iron ELEPHANT & THREE CLOWNS Mechanical Bank Original Antique Toy” is in sale since Tuesday, September 15, 2015.
