The bank are being listed with. And a reasonable starting price. The owner of the banks has reluctantly decided to part with much of his collection and he continues that tonight. This is the “ELEPHANT HOWDAH-MAN POPS OUT” Mechanical Bank c1880’s manufactured by the Enterprise Mfg. The inscription “Pat Apld For” appears on the underside of the howdah cover. There are no cracks or breaks and the bank still retains much of its original paint. The bank is illustrated and priced in the Enterprise Mfg Co. On page 37 of the catalogue appears what they called the Enterprise Elephant Bank, now known as the bank shown here tonight. This bank; however, has the original figure. The last picture is from the Sept. 1879 catalogue of A. To operate, the trunk is raised up and the figure of the man is pressed down. This causes the mechanism to snap into position. The top of the howdah is then manually closed. A coin is then placed in the elephant’s mouth. On pressing the small lever to the rear of the howdah the trunk snaps down knocking the coin inside the elephant. At the same time the figure of the man pops out of the howdah knocking or flipping the cover back. The bank is in proper working order. The bank is approximately 8″ long, 5″ high and 3 wide. This is a great opportunity to make this. A part of your collection.
