This is the Cat and Mouse – Cat Balancing bank produced by J&E Stevens in Cromwell CT and patented on April 21, 1891. An exceptionally complex mechanical bank with intricate, elegant casting and swift dramatic action: place a coin above the cat at the grey mouse’s feet, press the lever and the as the coin drops into the bank a kitten springs up into a handstand. This bank works great. The bank is very hard to find in this all original condition with no touch up or repaint; lots of nice bright colors left with paint loss consistent with the age.
