J. & E. Stevens Teddy And The Bear Cast Iron Mechanical Bank- Pat Feb. 19,1907
“Teddy and the Bear” mechanical bank, designed by Chas. Bailey and patented in February of 1907. It was manufactured by the J. Stevens Co of Cromwell, Conn. Measures 9 1/4 high x 10 1/4″ long x 3″ wide. It looks to retain close to 90% of its original paint, and the mechanism works just as it should: cock the gun by pulling back on the sliding piece of the rifle, push the bear down into the tree stump and close the top, then place a coin in front of the sliding piece and push the lever at Teddy’s feet. Teddy will then lower his head and shoot the coin into the stump as the bear pops out of the top. It appears that all of the parts are original (including Steven’s patented coin trap), and I can find no issues (no cracks, breaks, or other damage; and no repairs). Please check the pictures as they are an integral part of the description. If you’re a collector of mechanical banks, take advantage of the opportunity to own a very, very nice example of this one.
