Description : A rare cast iron Still Bank manufactured by Wm. Shimer & Son Toy Company, Freemansburg, PA, ca. This example has been identified as “Home Savings Bank” (Moore #1126). Shimer & Son was a relatively obscure company outside of Bethlehem, PA. This early toy maker created intricate, detailed castings on par with J & E Stevens. The firm later became associated with Dent Hardware in nearby Allentown, PA, and later with the Kenton Toy Co. See Internet for further information on the maker. Retains original japanned finish with gold painted highlights. Note: Some sources have attributed this Bank to J&E Stevens of Cromwell, CT around the same time period. Minor soiling noted for descriptive accuracy. Displays brilliantly as-is; a light cleaning would greatly enhance the original finish, if desired. See photos for complete details and close-ups.
