The locking mechanism works great, and to open one sets the larger dial to’D’ and the smaller dial to’X’. The piece has stood up extremely well for a bank this old, and all of the black and gold paint appears original. Like most items of this vintage, there will be assorted small scratches, spots of rust, and areas where the finish has worn. Also, it is missing the small baffle that would ordinarily sit beneath the coin slot (to prevent coins from being removed from the bank via the slot).
