“Tammany Bank” (also called the “Fat Man Bank”), designed by John Hall and patented in 1873. It was manufactured by the J. Stevens Co of Cromwell, Conn. Measures 5 7/8″ high x 4 1/2″ deep x 4 wide. It retains most all of its original painted finishes, and it displays beautifully. The mechanism works smoothly and as it should: place a coin in the fat man’s hand and the weight of the coin causes it to drop into the slot and causing the man to nod his head in acknowledgement. The piece comes complete except for the coin trap, and it has no chips, cracks, breaks, or other damage, and no repairs. It’s difficult to find this mechanical bank in this kind of condition, so if you’re a collector of mechanical banks, take advantage of this opportunity to own a very, very nice example of this one.
