1913 Vintage Diebold Decorative Cast Iron Bank Vault Safe Door INCREDIBLE PATINA
1913 Vintage Diebold Decorative Cast Iron & Steel Bank Vault Safe Door / INCREDIBLE PATINA! This gorgeous old BANK VAULT DOOR was manufactured in February, 1913 and spent its whole life in the Enderlin State Bank / Sheldon Station in the tiny town of Sheldon, North Dakota. The bank closed several decades ago and was totally neglected until the roof fell in. McClintock Scarab Beetle Burglar Alarm and this FABULOUSLY-PATINA’D 1/2 steel vault door and cast iron trim assembly. The inside trim on the door is nickel plated with ornate etching in the nickel…. While it shows some wear, it is not as worn as the exterior of the door. All of the latching hardware is free and moves easily. While I don’t have the combination, it is very simple to open the combination lock mechanism (2 screws to remove the cover) and a trained locksmith could determine the combination in a matter of minutes. The visible side of the door was exposed to rain for a number of years so the bottom 1′ of the door has developed some rust but is still rock-solid. The door has patina galore and would be perfect for an entry door to a man-cave, she-shed, gun safe, storm cellar or anywhere you want an impenetrable one-of-a-kind statement piece extraordinaire! If you want one that looks like brand new, an hour with a sandblaster and a new coat of paint would allow you to totally personalize the door and make it your own…. The door was originally part of a 2′ deep steel sleeve (frame) that featured a second set of lightweight locking steel doors behind this big guy. The 2′ deep steel sleeve was bent beyond repair in the demolition of the bank so I cut it to a depth of 5 1/2″ behind the vault door to enable a very simple installation in a standard 6″ framed wall. The rough opening for this door assembly needs to be 35″ Wide X 81.5″ High X 5.5 Deep. As shown in the photos with tape measures included, the overall height of the door frame is 99 1/2″ and the widest piece of trim (the arched top) is 56 1/4″ wide. I will be attending the Chicagoland Coin-Op Show in Grayslake, Illinois on November 19, 20 and 21 (and bringing the Vault Door with me). If you want to see it first, it’ll be on display all three days of the show or until it sells. The door is quite heavy…. While I haven’t weighed it, I’d guess the whole assembly weighs in excess of 600 lbs.
