Antique Kentucky Bank Teller Cashier Window Security Grate Solid Oak-
Antique Kentucky Bank Teller Cashier Window Security Grate – Solid Oak. This is another great salvage piece form the 19th century. Here is the story. This item was part of a display in the now defunct Kentucky Wax Museum located in Cave City, Kentucky. There were two of these, both painted light “bird eg” blue. They were part of the Jesse James and Younger Gang display of the hold up at the Southern Bank in Russellville, Kentucky in 1868. His is where the story gets interesting. The display was not historically correct and this has been confirmed through contacts and subject matter experts in Russellville. Jesse James swore he never robbed the bank in Russellville. One would be robber was killed during the attempt. The two teller windows are actually from a bank in Bowling Green, Kentucky during the Civil War. Bank was part of the Confederacy when the south portion of Kentucky Was. Confederate territory and this Bank’s name was also the The Southern Bank of Kentucky. There is little record of this bank but research. That after failing as a bank and. Changes, the building was eventually torn or possibly burned down. The museum was a roadside attraction and was profitable in it’s early years. It was closed in the 190’s and sat that way until it was cleaned out in 2020 and demolished. The one for sale here, is an authentic piece as described It is made of white oak and has one pine shelf brace -probably added years ago for the display. The bars are cast metal which have a faint bronze paint on them. The interesting part is the pulley system used by the teller to close the window. It appears a large metal-steel plated window could be lowered by a system of pulleys to secure the teller area and prevent robberies. The teller station has been cleaned of the light blue paint and is currently awaiting more restoration once the pulley system system has been identified and restored. This teller window weigh in near 200lbs. Contact me if you have any questions and see more information about it on our Facebook Page at Rowdy’s Trading Post.
